Nha Trang Philosophy

Area: 251 sq km – Population: 300,000

Set against an impressive backdrop of rolling mountains and hills, Nha Trang is best known for its golden beaches, clean air and proximity to several mostly uninhabited and unexplored islands. The city is a pleasant seaside resort with a relaxed atmosphere and well-established tourist services.

It is located around Nha Trang Bay, which has been ranked for two consecutive years amongst the top 30 most beautiful bays in the world by the global readership of prestigious Travel + Leisure magazine. Nha Trang is surrounded on three sides by mountains and a large island on the fourth. The ocean is directly in front of the city’s main area, and sea breezes keep the climate relatively cool and tranquil.

Visit the market, the pagoda overlooking the city and the Cham Towers of Po Nagar (an ancient temple site). Nha Trang also has an excellent museum devoted to the life and work of Alexandre Yerson (1863-1943), a pioneering French medical researcher who established a laboratory here.

The city of Nha Trang is becoming more popular with tourists every year. Yet, with a population of just 300,000, Nha Trang still retains its small town atmosphere.

This resort city is well known for its miles of beaches and the friendliness of its people. It is flanked by nearly ten kilometres of prime beach where the water is warm all year round. The average temperature is 26 degrees Celsius. Thanks to the sea breezes, Nha Trang city and surrounds also enjoy the lowest humidity in all of Vietnam.

With many varied cultural attractions, five star hotels, resorts and spas, water sports, leisure pursuits, bars, cafes and restaurants, Nha Trang literally combines old with new and East with West, making it one of Vietnam’s most popular beachfront resorts with leisure and business travellers alike.

Nha Trang is 1,287 km south of Hanoi, 514 km south of Danang and 447 km northeast from Ho Chi Minh City. It is set firmly on the well-established “tourist trail”, with increasing numbers of daily flights to and from these major cities, as well as train, bus and coach services that span the length and breadth of the country, and further afield into Southeast Asia.

Nha Trang – Treasure of Nature, is a comprehensive guidebook about Nha Trang, with easy to follow information about the people, life, culture and all the tourist activities and attractions in the city and surrounds.

This vibrant resort city is expanding rapidly, and it’s now time to highlight the modern day Nha Trang, and what it has to offer, for the burgeoning tourism industry.

This is the first-ever comprehensive, tourist-focused publication about Nha Trang and its surrounding areas, listing hotels, resorts, bars, restaurants, spas, cultural attractions and a plethora of water sports and related activities.  For hotels, bars and restaurants, it provides a channel to market for such useful information as location, category, contact details, website, dress code, opening time, payment methods, and a complete listing of tourism services including acceptable credit cards, etc.

Etymology

According to some researchers, the name Nha Trang is derived from an erroneous spelling of the Cham language geographical name Ya Trang, for what is now known as the Cai River. The name was reportedly adapted to become Nha Trang, and the area officially became part of Vietnam’s territory in 1653. There are several other theories about the name, including a link to Alexandre Yersin’s large white house on the Cai River (Nha Trang translates loosely as White House); however, despite the mystery surrounding its name, Nha Trang city is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in Vietnam and widely known throughout Southeast Asia for its appealing climate, with 10 months of dry, sunny days every year, its friendly people and its very special seafood.

The “Wow”Factor

For many people, Nha Trang is a haven of tranquility and closeness to nature.  Most are attracted for the same reasons - a beach that is ideal for a few days of relaxation, where the sand stretches along the bay for 10 kilometres and where the sea is a brilliant turquoise colour for most of the year. Whilst ideal for sun-seekers and beach-lovers, the city also has arguably the best nightlife in Vietnam outside of Saigon, with numerous bars and restaurants scattered along the beach and tourist areas. The rapid transformation of seafront Tran Phu Boulevard has already seen an influx of luxury hotels and resorts that fuse seamlessly with the existing infrastructure to make Nha Trang an ideal destination for travellers from all over the world – from budget to five-star.

Dining Guide

It is almost impossible to count the restaurants and bars in Nha Trang. It is also impossible to walk more than a few metres without passing one that will cater to lovers of a particular type of cuisine.

One of the “must do” activities in Nha Trang is to throw yourself into the culinary scene – everything from local seafood restaurants to a wide range of international cuisines including Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Russian, German, Indian and various types of Vietnamese food from the north, centre and south of the country.  Nha Trang is also well known for its Happy Hour culture, with many bars offering specials for most of the afternoon and evening. Travellers can enjoy everything from a quiet drink overlooking the beach, to the more energetic discotheques and dance clubs – many of which are open until the early hours.
